Deconstructing geeky myths

People ask me what I do here at the University (the cheek!). Well, my official job title is Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Librarian; that makes me responsible for Computing and Communications Services (CCS) and the Library. So, I suppose I'm head geek and the chief bookworm.

What I don't do is read all the books in the Library and scan all the information on the campus network (although that might be fun and entertaining). The CIO's role is to use information and information technology to advance teaching, learning and research at the University. It's not so much a job as a way of thinking.

I help dumb people do smart stuff.

I solve problems. Other than that, I can't really say what I do at the library.
