Laura Bush @ The Mount

Yesterday the first lady visited Edith Wharton's home, The Mount, on the occasion of the return of Wharton's personal library to her estate in Lenox MA.

As the guest of honor, Mrs. Bush spoke about the importance of preserving our history, and cracked up her audience with the following commentary: "Now I'm told that another big attraction in Lenox is the Canyon Ranch Spa," said Bush, 59. "When people heard I was coming to Lenox for preservation, they thought I was going there. But today I'm here to talk about how we can make sure our historical treasures like Edith Wharton's home and library are preserved for future generations." Report from the Berkshire Eagle .

She laughed; they cried

It's so nice that Mrs. Bush can yuk it up so she doesn't have to think about the fact that April has been the worst month of 2006 for U.S. troops killed in Iraq...and for Iraqi people: 34511 to 38660 have died.
