Addition of Guards Makes Santa Rosa's Library Less Like a Shelter, More Like a Library

Story from the Press Democract about the library in Santa Rosa. CA, where the librarian was so wary of library occupants that she chose to wear a fake name on her I.D. badge.

Librarian Vandy Ham said she still uses a fake name on her tag, but the situation has improved. "It's made a huge difference for us," Ham said Friday of the security guards. "We get to do our jobs, which is be librarians."

SCARY LIBRARY PATRONS

IN THE LAST HALF HOUR I HAD TO GIVE A PATRON A NOTICE THAT HE WAS OUT FOR 7 DAYS FOR LOUD & FOUL LANGUAGE.
HE PICKED UP A CHAIR AND THREW IT ACROSS 2 TABLES TOWARDS OTHER PATRONS. OUR POLICE CAME WITHIN 5 MIN BUT BY THEN HE WAS GONE. A GUARD WOULDN'T BE A BAD THING,IF WE COULD AFFORD MORE STAFF.
