Pull the plug on the public library

In The Gainsville (Florida) Sun George Elmore Says Historically the public library has been a valued research institution, and has served that purpose admirably. But no more. With the advent of the Internet and Google, virtually no serious research is carried on in the library stacks. The budget for the coming year is $19 million. That means that each visit costs over $15.

No serious research, the stacks is about the only place serious research can be carried out.

Gainesville Public Library (Alachua County Library District)

I live in Gainesville. While the library does have some flaws, it is heavily used and has a good selection and good services. It is the only benefit I get from paying taxes here. George Elmore is an idiot.

I cannot judge if mr. George Elmore is an idiot, but ignorant he is. Anyway my advice is: go with the other 1,2 million visitors yearly once to an Alachua County Library and read a book.
That will give without doubt a different view relating to the value of public libraries in the modern society.
