You've done a good analysis. All the right words to make the voters happy and probably nothing will happen. Libraries are middle-class institutions, used by middle-class people, paid for by the taxes of middle class workers. Considering where they're building libraries (at least in our state), I wonder at the value of this idea of clustering elementary schools and libraries and parks. We have that in our community, but I think it only enables the parents to use the library as a day care center. Sidewalks would have been helpful to cut down on the driving, but no one thought of that in the 1950s.
I sent this to FLA as well, as I do every year, but seldom do they even bother to list the legislation that may affect libraries. They did mention the proposed legislation about equalization grants, but they miss the things about sex offender acknowledgement, internet safety training and the like.
They miss things that will cost libraries money that they do not fund. They miss the things that will change library staff members jobs right away. Of course it is the Florida Library Association and not the Florida Librarian Association
