Completely wrong

I remarked earlier that I thought Prioleau Alexander's book, You Want Fries With That? would suck. I could not have been more wrong.

I got it from my local independent bookshop a couple of weeks ago, but I had not had time to read it. I took it with me to read on the plane last week. It was a scream. I called a friend from the airport to read part of the prologue -the dialogue between a RWM (me) and a South American father of 3. It was hilarious and yet absolutely correct.

The chapter about the ER was completely on target and I can say that with conviction after spending just over a decade as an RN in a big city ER.

Pray Low has it right, the jobs we have as middle class corporate drones suck, but my God, they sure suck a lot less than anything else except Sultan of Brunei, and I don't think they are taking applications for that.

I have to say I was never so wrong about a book before. I know never judge... cover, yep I know all of that. However the premise on which I thought the book was based - some middle aged dude quiting his job to show how hard the service workers in this country work was not what the book was all about at all. It was not a social science exercise, it was just life as Alexander saw it.

I did have one complaint. The word buys on page 212 should be guys. So bear that in mind when you read it.

I am giving my copy to my local PL as I said I would, but I have had to order 2 more copies to give to friends. Prioleau, enjoy that extra 34 cents.
