Librarians around the state are breathing a sigh of relief now that the legislature has passed a budget with no cuts in aid to libraries.
“We’re thrilled, delighted,” said State Librarian Mary Boone. “It’s absolutely wonderful that the governor and the legislature understand the value of public libraries in these difficult economic times.”
Boone heads the State Library of North Carolina, part of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.
The state’s budget for the 2011 fiscal year, which was signed by Gov. Bev Perdue on June 30, includes a $15.7 million allocation for public libraries across North Carolina
